You’ll need a modern smartphone during your program to set up two-factor authentication (2FA) and access campus services. Make sure the phone you choose can run the Microsoft Authenticator app—this is required for secure login.
- Why? It’s the simplest and most secure 2FA method, fully supported by IT Services.
- Compatible devices: Most newer smartphones running iOS or Andoird that support the current version of Microsoft Authenticator.

CAUTION - Avoid Huawei, Oppo and other devices running Color OS as they may not work with Microsoft Authenticator and/or campus Wi-Fi. Contact IT Services if you are unsure whether your device is supported.

You’ll need a laptop throughout your program to stay connected and complete your coursework.
Bringing Your Own Laptop?
You don’t have to buy a new laptop if you already have one, but it does need to meet program requirements. For the best experience, we recommend a laptop that meets or exceeds your program's hardware requirements. Students working extensively with Adobe Creative Cloud, video, animation or 3D applications may benefit from higher-performance devices.
If you’re using your own laptop, make sure it can:
- Run the most current version of Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Meet the system recommendations for your program.
This ensures you can keep up with course expectations and software performance.
Need to buy a laptop?
- University students get special pricing from Apple.
- For the best-quality Windows laptops, we recommend HP.
- Animation and Design students can access high-performance computing and production software using Remote PC (works well even when using a lower-powered laptop).

Most students will use Adobe Creative Cloud software during their time at ECU. The All Apps - Pro Edition - Students license comes with 100 GB of cloud storage plus web, mobile and desktop apps (e.g., Photoshop, After Effects).

Step 1: Provide consent in MyEC
- Log into myEC Student (https://myec.ecuad.ca/)
- Click on “Adobe Consent (*NEW*) under Academic Profile
- You will be taken to the consent page
- You will make a consent selection (Yes means that you give Adobe permission to use your ECU email address)
- Click Save
- There will be no further feedback from the screen. Just the "dot" in your selection will remain in place.

To begin accessing your ECU Adobe Suite, you must first give your Adobe consent.
- This allows ECU to disclose your ECU email address to Adobe.
- Under Academic Profile, click on Adobe Consent.
- You will gain access within 1-2 business days.

| Step 3: Install Adobe Creative Cloud on your computer(s) |
Once your account is ready, you receive an email from Adobe with “Access Granted”.
- Install the Creative Cloud desktop app on up to (2) personal devices.
- Sign in using your ECU credentials.
- If Adobe does not activate, sign out and then back in again before creating a ticket with IT Services.

All students are automatically enrolled in our ECU Microsoft 365 environment, including the single-sign-on (SSO) and 2-factor authentication (2FA) protocols that secure our digital systems. Additionally, students can access an ecoystem of industry standard, integrated apps that support teaching and learning:
- Communication tools (Outlook email + calendar, Teams videoconferencing + instant message).
- Storage and collaboration tools (OneDrive, Teams + SharePoint).
- Desktop, web and mobile apps (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
